Green Canyon; or, the locals call it Cukang Taneuh which means the soil bridge; is a canyon formed naturally on Cijulang river. Cijulang river flows through the canyon. As you get there, you will see stalactites hung above your head. The name Green Canyon itself was obtained from a French tourist who came to the location and gave the name in 1993.

Come and visit Indonesia when the weather is hot and sun shines all day (approximately from March to August). Come to West Java to visit Green Canyon at this season too when you can swim in the river which flow through the canyon without worrying the river current, because, in rain season, the current tends to be stronger. Sometimes, no boats will take you to the canyon if the current too strong. I suggest you to visit Green Canyon in a hot season.

Located near Batu Karas beach, the dock where boats wait to carry you to Green Canyon is 15 minutes away from Batu Karas by motorbike. Motorbike rental is available in Batu Karas. On foot, travel time will be longer of course, but walking is a good warm up before swimming in Cijulang river. A bike is an alternative transportation, you get to Green Canyon faster than walking and warming up at the same time.

From Pangandaran, you have to take a bus from Pangandaran Bus Terminal towards Cijulang Terminal. Take an ‘ojek’ from there to Green Canyon.

As you arrive at the the dock, you have to pay for fees required. The rate includes entrance fee, tax, insurance, transportation, etc. After that, you have to queue and wait for your turn to be on the boat. The boat will take you to Green Canyon in approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Enjoy tropical rainforest at both side of the river along the way.

Alternatively, another dock is ready for service. The dock only serve the passengers who want to go to Green Canyon for body rafting.

As you get there, to Green Canyon, you will see an amazing view. High cliffs stand on both side of the rives. Water runs through stalactites and drops as it reach the point. The water drops as if rain falls from the rocks. The green colored river water falls in a series of cascades. You don’t want to miss this vista without taking a picture.

After taking pictures, feel the freshness of the river by swimming in it. It’s such a great sensation swimming between gigantic rocks. The boat will wait for you as do the activities, but extra charge will cost you for extra hours.
